Deus ex Machina

August 2, 2004

Description

This was my first real desktop layout after I got my new display, a 20″ Dell 2001FP LCD. The monitor is gorgeous at its native resolution of 1600×1200, and this nice high-resolution wallpaper featuring artwork from Deus Machina Demonbane really brings out the crispness and rich color saturation that give LCD displays an advantage over CRTs.

Misintentions

July 2, 2004

Description

Ah, I just love playing with new software; I’m always looking for something new and cool to come along. Here, I’m using voice commands to navigate through my pictures from China. It’s a novel feature supported by FFView and it works to some degree.

The desktop picture is one of the many whimsical works from M’s collection. Deciphering his taglines is a job in itself.

Everyday Castaway

March 18, 2004

Description

Fiddling with a couple of neat apps here: VoodooPad Lite and GeekTool. The G7 logo was adding using GeekTool’s image functionality; it is not part of the wallpaper.

Dark Lands

March 3, 2004

Description

Tsukihime was a dark, brooding series with a mix of action, fantasy, and romance. It’s a relatively short series, but I found it quite enjoyable, all the same. You’ll also notice Darklands, a semi-historical RPG classic from my DOS days, playing on DOSBox, a very capable cross-platform DOS emulator.

Holiday Cheer

December 24, 2003

Description

It’s that time of year again and the talented artists have put out some great holiday works. The one you see here is only one of the many I’ve acquired. What makes this one special is that the author has provided multiple version including a Mac edition. From someone who uses a PowerBook this extra bit of effort is more than welcome. Good desktop pictures at the PowerBook’s native resolution (1280×854) are all too rare.

Together Forever

October 4, 2003

Description

It’s (another) Kiddy Grade wall featuring Eclair and Lumiere. I found this while browsing the Anime Layer forums.

Bant re-released his Reluna theme. The purple tones are gone in favor of a more traditional blue scheme that remains easy on the eyes. As good as it is, I think I liked the first version better.

Secluded Summer Sensei

September 17, 2003

Description

Sometimes I think the simple desktops like this one are the best. The rest is just my usual arsenal of customization utilities.

Mecha Industrial Valkyrie

Description

This is the second version of Fox’s awesome piece Kathryn’s Wings. I liked it a lot the first time around. I’m liking it even more now.

Under My Umbrella

August 25, 2003

Description

The interesting thing here is the little extra objects on the desktop (weather, battery monitor, picture frame, etc.). These are some of the Widgets that come with the slick piece of Mac goodness known as Konfabulator. Konfabulator is powered by JavaScript runtime engine that allows users to create and use widgets that can do many things. The only catch is that it’s shareware.

The picture frame is my favorite. It’s like having picture-in-picture on your monitor! Not that picture-in-picture was ever useful on my TV, but still.

Mystique Girl

August 2, 2003

Description

Features a gorgeous wallpaper that combines the serenity of Bliss, the default Windows XP desktop, with a cute anime chick. The visual style is nothing more than the silver theme that comes with Windows XP. Added silver-ish Winamp skin to taste. burnatonce has been updated to version 0.98, which includes a fix for an ugly permissions bug that would keep you from burning some files.
